Alpha Hatsuseno

Alpha Hatsuseno is the main character of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. Alpha runs a small cafe in the Japanese countryside. Although she looks human Alpha is actually a sophisticated bio mechanical android. At the beginning of YKK Alpha's world consists of the small cafe she runs and the customers she has. With each new person and android Alpha meets her world slowly begins to expand.With the expansion of her world Alpha gains the confidence to leave her cafe travel the Japanese countryside.

Alpha has a natural innocence and a love for anyone she meets that naturally draws people to her. Although she spent a year away from home, Alpha has no desire to make a permanent change in the location of her cafe. Even though she receives very few customers as the years move on Alpha is able to survive without the need for a constant supply of food and drink. Although Alpha is an android, her body acts like a human body causing her to become tired or hungry. Alpha's body is, however, unable to digest animal proteins thus making it hard for her to have meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products.

Alpha has talents beyond that of being an entrepreneur running her cafe. It has been shown that Alpha can play the Chinese getsukin, or moon harp, that her owner left her. She has also shown a talent for hand made wood handicrafts making fish shaped key chains and other wooden items and a love of photography. Alpha has even tried her hand at home remodeling when she rebuilt her cafe after it received damage from a natural disaster. Plus, she also has a knack for engine repair being able to repair a simple engine and maintain the engine on her motor scooter. She also owns a camera that owner sent to her as a means to record the world around her.

Like all androids Alpha has the ability to share information through a transfer process that resembles kissing. Alpha's tongue has a series of sensors inside it that allow her to receive information. Through these sensors Alpha can link into any electronic control panel and view the images stored on her camera's memory cubes. Alpha's body is very sensitive to electronic devices and combustion engines and will at times become one with the device she has linked with giving Alpha the sensation of flying. These sensations have become so powerful Alpha has experienced several out of body experiences where she looses her feet and legs and her arms turn into wing-like devices.

Throughout the series Alpha changes considerably. In the beginning, Alpha maintains a childlike innocence fascinated with everyone that comes in contact with her. As time moves on Alpha chages from the innocent child to a confidant adult. Alpha is seen as a big sister, a best friend, a first crush, and a possible love interest.

Alpha makes her first apperance in Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou chapter one of volume one. Her last appearance in the series is in chapter 140 of volume 14. Alpha is featured in all but a handful of chapters.
